WHY CHOOSE NEWMARKET ACUPUNCTURE
- I am a native of Toronto and am a fluent English speaker
- 10 years of clinical experience in both China and Canada
- I have helped many individuals who have tried other forms of therapy without success through acupuncture or Traditional Chinese Medicine
- Alternative methods of treatment for patients who “hate pills”
ABOUT THE PRACTITIONER
Robert Tan is an experienced Acupuncturist and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner with clinical experience in Canada and China. He became interested in TCM and acupuncture at an early age due to a family member who was a practitioner. Although he obtained an Honours Bachelors in Computer Science and Criminology from the University of Toronto at the behest of his family, he ultimately acknowledged TCM as his true calling in life. He followed his calling and later obtained a diploma from the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacology Canada at CMU. In 2014 Robert became registered as an acupuncturist and TCM practitioner, forging his way through this alternate career path.
Robert travelled to China in 2018 to pursue further education at the Chengdu University of TCM in order to further his clinical experience. During this time he shadowed Dr. Fu Yuan Mou, a renowned specialist in classical formulas from Chengdu. While travelling between Canada and China, Robert developed professionally through multi-faceted experiences:
-Lecturing at the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the Assessment and Diagnostics course
-Co-authoring two peer-reviewed journal articles
-Translating acupuncture textbooks as part of a national Chinese curriculum and being delegated as a member of the World Federation of TCM Associations Translation Committee
-Exploring and experimenting with many herbs in the classic TCM canons which were not available in North America
In his practice Robert aims to provide patients with rapid relief through the combined use of acupuncture and traditional Chinese herbs. He has clinical experience in treating both bodily pain and internal conditions. He has treated patients with sciatica, migraines, lower back pain, arthritis, insomnia, kidney stones, urinary dysfunction, gastrointestinal disorders, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, menstrual pain and gynecological issues, fibroids, Behcet’s syndrome, Raynaud’s disease, asthma, coughing, sinus congestion, and other respiratory conditions.
